Safe Routes to School (SRTS) is funded through Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) federal funds. Idaho has 7 local programs covering 13 school districts and we are growing! Idaho’s local program coordinators work with schools, after school programs, daycares, and at community events to engage and educate students and families about safe transportation.
SRTS incorporates the Five Es: evaluation, education, encouragement, engineering and engagement to build safer Idaho communities. Encouraging biking and walking has a multitude of benefits for Idaho students including increased physical activity and academic achievement.
Safe Routes to School benefits communities through safer streets for all and can reduce public money spent on busing students to and from school. For more information and data on the benefits of SRTS please click on the SRTS Benefits tab.
